About the Organization

The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) is the largest trade association in the United States, representing approximately 1.5 million real estate professionals involved in residential and commercial real estate. Founded in 1908 and headquartered in Chicago with offices in Washington, D.C., NAR’s mission is to support its members’ professional success, promote high standards of practice through a Code of Ethics, and advocate for policies that protect property ownership and strengthen the real estate market.

Policy Goals

NAR advocates for federal, state, and local policies that promote homeownership, protect private property rights, expand access to mortgage credit, support fair housing, reform real estate finance and tax policy, strengthen multiple listing services (MLS), and address housing supply and affordability challenges.

Funding

Primarily funded through membership dues paid by real estate professionals and affiliated local and state associations, as well as revenue from conferences, publications, and professional development programs.

Affiliates

Affiliated state and local REALTOR® associations nationwide; Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM); REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC); multiple institutes, societies, and councils representing specialty areas of real estate practice.
