About the Organization

The National Consumer Law Center (NCLC) is a nonprofit advocacy organization that works to advance economic justice for low-income and other disadvantaged consumers. Founded in 1969, it provides legal research, policy analysis, advocacy, and education to support consumer protections in areas such as lending, debt collection, housing, utilities, and access to justice.

Policy Goals

Consumer protection, fair lending, debt collection reform, foreclosure prevention, student loan borrower protections, utility affordability, credit reporting accuracy, and broader economic justice and anti-poverty initiatives.

Funding

Foundation grants, government grants and contracts, charitable contributions, and revenue from publications and training programs.

Affiliates

National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA), legal services organizations nationwide, and partnerships with civil rights and consumer advocacy coalitions.
