About the Organization

The National Foster Parent Association (NFPA) is a national nonprofit that represents and supports foster, kinship, and adoptive parents through networking, education, training, and policy advocacy. Its stated mission is to be a respected national voice for resource parents and to promote family-based care, best practices, and supports that help children in out-of-home placement achieve safety, permanency, and well-being.

Policy Goals

Child welfare and foster care policy; recruitment and retention of foster and kinship families; training and education standards for resource parents; supports and services funding for foster/kinship/adoptive families; mental and behavioral health access for children in care; adoption policy; tax and financial supports for resource parents; state and federal advocacy related to foster care practice and oversight.

Funding

Primarily funded by membership dues, individual donations, sponsorships and partnerships, training and conference fees, and grants.

Affiliates

NFPA Council of State Affiliates (state foster parent associations), NFPA Training Institute, partners such as the Center for Adoption Support and Education (CASE) and other child-welfare organizations; notable individuals associated with NFPA include founders Helen D. Stone and Beatrice L. Garrett and current leadership such as Executive Director Arnie Eby.
