About the Organization

The National Haitian American Elected Officials Network (NHAEON) is a non‑partisan 501(c)(3) coalition of Haitian‑American elected and appointed officials founded in 2009. NHAEON’s mission is to engage Haitian Americans in the political process, amplify community voices, strengthen civic participation, and advance social justice, equity, and policy priorities that affect Haitians in the United States and the Haitian diaspora.

Policy Goals

Typically advocates on immigration reform and diaspora policy toward Haiti, civic and voting rights, criminal justice and police reform, economic empowerment and wealth creation, education, healthcare access, environmental and sustainability issues, poverty reduction, and broader diversity, equity and inclusion measures.

Funding

Primarily funded through membership dues, individual and philanthropic donations, event revenues and sponsorships (annual leadership summit and conferences), and occasional grants.

Affiliates

Founders and prominent affiliated leaders include Marie St. Fleur, Linda Dorcena Forry, Judge Lionel Jean‑Baptiste, former mayors and local officials (e.g., Joe Celestin, Philipe Derose), and recent leadership such as Charnette Frederic and Mary Estimé‑Irvin; NHAEON also partners with community‑based and faith‑based Haitian diaspora organizations.
