About the Organization

The National Hydropower Association (NHA) is a U.S. nonprofit trade association that advocates for the development, modernization and responsible operation of hydropower and marine energy. NHA's mission is to champion water power through policy advocacy, industry collaboration, technical programs, education and public outreach to expand clean, reliable and flexible renewable generation and storage.

Policy Goals

Advocacy on federal energy and climate policy, FERC licensing and permitting reform for hydro projects, support for pumped storage and grid-scale energy storage, infrastructure and transmission investments, tax incentives and clean energy credits for water power, dam safety and environmental mitigation standards, workforce development and research for marine energy and hydro technologies

Funding

Primarily funded by membership dues from hydropower owners, utilities, developers, equipment manufacturers and service providers, plus event sponsorships, conferences and program fees

Affiliates

Member organizations and partners include major utilities and developers and industry suppliers such as Brookfield Renewable, Duke Energy, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), Andritz Hydro, Voith Hydro, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), New York Power Authority (NYPA), American Municipal Power and engineering firms like Stantec
