About the Organization

The National LGBTQ+ Bar Association is a national non-profit professional association of lawyers, judges, law students, and affiliated organizations that advances equality for LGBTQ+ people and promotes the professional development, networking, and leadership of LGBTQ+ legal professionals through education, policy advocacy, mentoring, and litigation support.

Policy Goals

Advocates for LGBTQ+ civil rights and nondiscrimination laws (employment, housing, education, public accommodations), transgender health and legal recognition, family and parental rights, access to courts and fair judicial treatment, diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, and related criminal justice and civil liberties issues; frequently files amicus briefs and issues policy statements on legal and legislative matters affecting LGBTQ+ people.

Funding

Primarily funded by membership dues, conference and continuing legal education fees, corporate and law-firm sponsorships, and foundation and individual donations.

Affiliates

Works with the American Bar Association and local and state LGBTQ+ bar associations, and collaborates with civil-rights organizations and legal advocacy groups such as Lambda Legal, the ACLU, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, and sponsoring law firms.
