The National LGBTQI+ Cancer Network (also known as The Cancer Network) is a U.S.-based nonprofit that works to reduce cancer disparities affecting LGBTQI+ people by providing evidence-based information, peer support, provider training, public education and advocacy to expand inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity in cancer research, data and care.
Promotes LGBTQI+ health equity policies including SOGI-inclusive cancer research and surveillance, culturally competent and non-discriminatory cancer care, expanded access to screening and treatment, targeted tobacco-prevention and cessation efforts for LGBTQI+ communities, and increased public and private funding for LGBTQI+ cancer programs and research.
Combination of foundation and government grants, philanthropic and individual donations, and program service revenue (training and contract support).
Founder Liz Margolies; current leadership including Executive Director (Scout NFN); partners and funders have included the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, New York State Department of Health, NYC Health + Hospitals, Bristol Myers Squibb, the American Medical Association, the LIVESTRONG Foundation and other national cancer and LGBTQ health organizations.
