The National Military Family Association (NMFA) is a nonprofit advocacy organization that represents and supports families of active-duty, Reserve, Guard, and retired U.S. service members. NMFA's mission is to strengthen and protect military families through education, community programs, and advocacy to improve family quality of life and access to benefits and services.
Advocates for military family quality-of-life and readiness issues including pay and compensation, survivor and caregiver benefits, TRICARE and military health policy, family housing and base support, childcare and education for military children, transition and employment assistance for spouses, and other legislative and DoD policy changes affecting military families.
Primarily funded by individual and membership contributions, philanthropic grants, corporate sponsorships, and fundraising events.
Partners and collaborators have included other military and veterans service organizations and family-support groups such as Blue Star Families, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), The Military Coalition, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), and USO, as well as engagement with Department of Defense family programs and congressional offices.
