About the Organization

The National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) is a Washington, D.C.-based trade association that represents owners, developers, managers and investors of apartment communities. NMHC provides industry research, convenes leaders, and advocates for public policies intended to support the production, financing, operation and long-term investment in multifamily rental housing.

Policy Goals

Advocacy on federal and state housing and real estate policy including tax and finance (including capital markets and housing finance), regulatory reform, land use and zoning, affordable and workforce housing initiatives, fair housing and compliance, sustainability and energy efficiency, and infrastructure and workforce-related policies that affect multifamily development and operations.

Funding

Primarily financed by membership dues, conference and event sponsorships, paid research and data products, and fees for industry programs and training; members are typically apartment owners, developers, REITs, property managers and related service providers.

Affiliates

Large apartment owners, developers and managers (including major REITs and property management firms), NMHC research and policy committees, and related industry organizations such as the National Apartment Association and other regional/state apartment associations.
