About the Organization

The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) is a U.S.-based nonprofit advocacy and legal organization, founded in 1972, that uses litigation, policy analysis, research, and public education to advance and defend the rights and opportunities of women and families.

Policy Goals

Advocates for gender equity in education and employment, pay equity and economic security, reproductive health and rights, access to child care and family leave, protections against sex discrimination and sexual harassment, and policy solutions addressing the needs of marginalized women (including women of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, and survivors of violence).

Funding

Primarily funded by foundation grants and philanthropic donations, supplemented by individual contributions, program grants and contracts, and occasional partner support.

Affiliates

Frequently collaborates with organizations such as Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, the National Partnership for Women & Families, the Center for Reproductive Rights, state-based women’s advocacy groups, and prominent legal and policy leaders.
