About the Organization

The New Mexico Asian Family Center (NMAFC) is a community-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2006 that provides culturally and linguistically tailored social services to Asian, Pacific Islander, and Native Hawaiian (APINH) individuals and families across New Mexico. NMAFC offers wraparound case management, individual and family counseling, survivor-centered services for victims of gender-based and other violence, legal consultation and representation, youth and family leadership programs, financial education, traditional healing practices, and civic engagement and voter education in multiple Asian languages.

Policy Goals

Advocacy for language access and culturally responsive services, immigrant and refugee access to services and legal protections, survivor and domestic/sexual violence prevention and victim support, health and mental health equity for APINH communities, civic engagement and voter outreach, and cross-racial movement building and racial equity policy work.

Funding

Primarily supported by foundation and government grants, supplemented by individual donations and charitable contributions.

Affiliates

Collaborative relationships with the New Mexico Black Leadership Council (NMBLC) through True NM, partnerships with local victim advocacy and family service agencies including the Albuquerque Family Advocacy Center, support from AAPI civic engagement funders, and organizational leadership including Executive Director Sachi Watase and board leadership such as Carol M. Suzuki.
