The North Carolina Council of Churches is a faith-based ecumenical organization that educates, inspires, and mobilizes people of faith and congregations to advocate for justice in North Carolina. Founded in 1935, it works on social justice issues through a Christian lens, with emphasis on equity, compassion, and community well-being.
Economic justice, racial justice, criminal justice reform, gun violence prevention, public education, environmental justice, health and wholeness, voting rights and democracy, immigrant rights, farmworkers, and other social justice and legislative advocacy issues.
Primarily supported by donations, covenant partners, grants, and contributions from member denominations, congregations, and supporters.
Member denominations and congregations across North Carolina; affiliated initiatives include Partners in Health & Wholeness and Eco-Justice Connection. Prominent faith leaders and denominational partners are associated with the Council.
