The Office of the Attorney General of Missouri is the state’s chief legal office, led by an elected attorney general who serves as Missouri’s chief legal officer and “people’s lawyer.” It represents the state in litigation, advises state agencies, enforces consumer and other civil laws, and issues legal opinions on questions of law.
Consumer protection, civil litigation, criminal appeals and prosecution support, environmental enforcement, open government/sunshine law, Medicaid fraud, public safety, and legal representation of state agencies and officials.
Primarily funded by Missouri state appropriations from the state budget.
