PFLAG San Jose/Peninsula is the local chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) serving San Jose and the San Francisco Peninsula. Its mission is to create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them by providing peer-to-peer support, public education, and advocacy at the local level.
Typically pursues policies that advance LGBTQ+ equality and family acceptance, including anti-discrimination protections, inclusive K–12 school policies and curricula, access to affirming health care for LGBTQ+ and transgender people, protections for transgender youth, mental-health and suicide-prevention supports, and community education and outreach.
Primarily funded through individual donations and membership dues, local fundraising and events, foundation grants, and occasional philanthropic or corporate grants.
PFLAG National and its network of chapters, local LGBTQ+ community centers and advocacy organizations on the San Jose/Peninsula, allied civil-rights and health groups, and local school and family organizations.
