Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia (PPAV) is the statewide advocacy arm of the Planned Parenthood movement in Virginia. PPAV works to preserve and expand access to reproductive and sexual health care through legislative lobbying, public education, electoral activity, grassroots organizing, and strategic litigation, with a focus on protecting access to contraception, abortion, cancer screenings, STI services, and related care.
Reproductive health and rights advocacy including protection and expansion of abortion access and contraception, support for Title X and Medicaid funding for family planning, sex education and public health initiatives, patient and provider protections, civic engagement and electoral work to elect supportive lawmakers, and strategic litigation to defend access to care.
Primarily funded by individual and grassroots donations, supplemented by grants and financial support from national Planned Parenthood organizations and allied fundraising and political entities.
Affiliated with Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund; represents Virginia affiliates including the Virginia League for Planned Parenthood, Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, and Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC; state leadership has included Executive Director Jamie Lockhart.
