About the Organization

The Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health is a U.S.-based nonprofit social change organization focused on closing gaps in maternal mental health care and advancing a healthcare system that routinely detects and treats maternal mental health disorders for pregnant and postpartum mothers.

Policy Goals

Maternal mental health policy, maternal health system reform, Medicaid and insurance reimbursement, screening and treatment access, hospital and provider best practices, state and federal advocacy, and public funding for maternal mental health services.

Funding

Primarily philanthropic grants and foundation support, along with donations and project-based funding from private funders.

Affiliates

Founder and Executive Director Joy Burkhard; recognized by the Bridgespan Group as a field catalyst; participates in coalitions including the Federal Maternal Mental Health Task Force, Health Care Transformation Task Force, California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative, Coalition on Human Needs, Mental Health Liaison Group, Maternal Health Action and Resource Coalition, Strategic Medicaid Maternal Health Coalition, and Clinton Global Initiative Maternal Health Coalition.
