About the Organization

QLaw Foundation of Washington is a Seattle-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that promotes the dignity and legal rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ Washingtonians through direct legal services, community legal education, advocacy, amicus work, and impact litigation. The foundation operates a statewide legal clinic, provides attorney referrals and know-your-rights resources, and works to remove legal barriers facing queer and trans people.

Policy Goals

Pursues policies and legal strategies advancing LGBTQ2S+ civil rights and access to justice, including nondiscrimination protections, gender-affirming care and identification document access, family and parental rights, housing and employment protections, court and administrative reform to reduce barriers for queer and trans people, and related impact litigation, training, and legislative advocacy.

Funding

Primarily funded by individual donations, foundation and philanthropic grants, fundraising campaigns (including monthly donors and donor-advised funds), and supplemented by pro bono volunteer attorney support and occasional public or private grants.

Affiliates

Closely affiliated with the QLaw Association of Washington (a sibling LGBTQ bar association); partners with local bar associations such as the King County Bar Association, legal aid and community organizations across Washington, and a statewide network of volunteer attorneys and law-school partners.
