About the Organization

The Rural Utah Project is a Utah-based civic organizing group focused on increasing political participation and representation in rural and Indigenous communities. Founded in 2017, it conducts voter registration and turnout work, builds addressing and digital tools for hard-to-reach areas (including the Utah portion of the Navajo Nation), and organizes around land stewardship, local governance, and community resilience.

Policy Goals

Voter access and registration, Indigenous representation and Native voter outreach, public lands protection and land stewardship, environmental and conservation policy, rural infrastructure and services (addresses, emergency response, broadband), local government and community organizing

Funding

Primarily individual donations and small grants from philanthropic foundations and allied civic and environmental organizations

Affiliates

Now operating as Stewardship Utah (Rural Utah Project), League of Conservation Voters, Let Utah Vote Coalition, Coalition to Save Nine Mile Canyon, Save the Book Cliffs Coalition, and local organizers including Executive Director TJ Ellerbeck
