About the Organization

SAG-AFTRA is the American labor union representing film, television, radio, streaming and digital media performers and recording artists, including actors, broadcasters, voice actors, background performers and other media professionals; it negotiates collective bargaining agreements, enforces contract terms, administers health and pension benefits, and advocates for members' pay, working conditions and rights in evolving media and technology environments.

Policy Goals

Collective bargaining and contract enforcement; wages, residuals and royalties (including streaming-era compensation); health and pension benefits; workplace safety and harassment prevention; protections for performers' likeness, voice and image (including AI/replication issues); freelance/multi-employer labor protections; diversity, equity and inclusion in casting and hiring; related federal and state labor and copyright policy advocacy.

Funding

Primarily funded by member dues, initiation fees and periodic assessments, with additional revenue from investment returns and administration of benefit funds.

Affiliates

Affiliated with and allied to major U.S. labor and entertainment unions and groups — including the AFL-CIO, and closely coordinated with unions such as the Writers Guild of America, Directors Guild of America and IATSE — and represents many high-profile film, television and radio performers as members.
