The Seafarers International Union (SIU) of North America is a labor union representing merchant mariners, deck and engine department personnel, inland-water and Great Lakes workers, and related maritime employees. The organization negotiates collective bargaining agreements, operates hiring halls and training programs (including the Paul Hall Center for Maritime Training and Education), administers member benefit plans, and advocates for U.S. maritime industry and labor protections.
Primarily funded through member dues and assessments, training and certification program fees, benefit-plan contributions and investment income; political activity is supported by voluntary member contributions and union-run political funds/PAC activity.
