About the Organization

The Society of American Foresters (SAF) is a national professional association founded in 1900 that represents foresters and natural resource professionals across the United States. Its mission is to advance the science, education, and practice of forestry; promote sustainable forest management; enhance professional excellence; and ensure the continued health, integrity, and use of forest ecosystems for the benefit of society.

Policy Goals

Sustainable forest management, public lands management, forestry research and education, professional standards and certification for foresters, conservation policy, wildfire management, climate and forest resilience, and science-based natural resource policy.

Funding

Membership dues, conference and event fees, publications, professional certification programs, grants, and charitable contributions.

Affiliates

State-level SAF societies and chapters, university forestry programs, the U.S. Forest Service, and forestry-related professional and academic partners.
