About the Organization

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons is a not-for-profit professional medical society founded in 1964 that represents cardiothoracic surgeons, researchers, and allied health professionals. Its mission is to improve patient care and outcomes for diseases and surgeries of the heart, lungs, esophagus, and other structures in the chest.

Policy Goals

Health care quality and patient safety, cardiothoracic surgery standards, clinical research, education and training, public reporting and transparency, and advocacy on Medicare/reimbursement and federal research funding

Funding

Primarily supported by member dues, educational programs, publications, conferences, sponsorships, and related professional society revenue
