About the Organization

The Surfrider Foundation — Florida Region is the state-level network of the Surfrider Foundation, a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to protecting and enjoying the ocean, waves and beaches. The Florida Region supports volunteer-led local chapters across the state, runs coastal science and stewardship programs (e.g., water quality monitoring, beach cleanups, reef protection and Ocean Friendly programs), and conducts policy and advocacy to advance clean water, plastic reduction, beach access and coastal resilience in Florida.

Policy Goals

Advocates for clean water and water-quality protections, reductions in single-use plastics and marine debris, beach access and public trust protections, coastal resilience and nature-based solutions, protection of coral reefs and nearshore ecosystems, opposition to expanded offshore drilling, and measures that preserve local planning authority and community coastal protections.

Funding

Primarily funded by individual donations and memberships, local chapter fundraising and volunteer support, foundation grants, merchandise and event revenue, and selective corporate sponsorships or partnerships.

Affiliates

Surfrider Foundation (national) and its Florida chapters (e.g., Broward, Emerald Coast, First Coast, Florida Keys, Miami, Orlando, Palm Beach County, Space Coast, Suncoast, Treasure Coast, Volusia/Flagler, Paradise Coast), Surfrider programs such as the Blue Water Task Force and Ocean Friendly Restaurants/Hotels, and partnerships with local governments, academic researchers and other environmental NGOs.
