About the Organization

The AIDS Institute is a national, nonpartisan nonprofit that advances public policy, research, advocacy, education, and technical assistance to protect and expand access to prevention, care, and treatment for people living with or at risk for HIV, viral hepatitis, and other sexually transmitted infections. Founded from a grassroots mobilization in the 1980s and incorporated in the 1990s, the organization maintains a federal policy office in Washington, DC and program offices in Florida to support state and community advocacy.

Policy Goals

Federal and state public health policy affecting HIV, viral hepatitis, and STIs; health care access and coverage (Medicaid, Ryan White, ACA protections); prevention and treatment access including PrEP and hepatitis therapies; harm reduction and syringe services; funding and appropriations for HIV/hepatitis programs; health equity and anti-stigma initiatives for marginalized communities.

Funding

Primarily funded through foundation grants, government grants and contracts, philanthropic donations, and earned revenue from convening and capacity-building activities.

Affiliates

Works in coalition with organizations such as the HIV, STD & Hepatitis Policy Partnership (including AIDS United, NASTAD, National Coalition of STD Directors, and NMAC), state health departments, and community-based HIV/AIDS service organizations.
