About the Organization

The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) is the U.S. trade association representing producers, wholesalers, retailers, transporters and related businesses in the fertilizer and plant-nutrition sector. TFI advocates for policies that support a reliable domestic supply chain, safe handling and transport of nutrients, market transparency and science-based nutrient stewardship programs (including the 4R framework), and provides industry data, research coordination and public communications to advance sustainable crop nutrition.

Policy Goals

TFI typically pursues federal and state policies on trade and tariffs affecting fertilizer imports and exports, energy and feedstock availability for fertilizer production, transportation and logistics, permitting and siting of production facilities, environmental and water-quality regulations tied to nutrient management, safety and security standards for hazardous materials, research and innovation incentives (including low‑carbon/advanced ammonia), and Farm Bill provisions that affect inputs and nutrient stewardship adoption.

Funding

Primarily financed by membership dues and fees from fertilizer producers, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and related service companies, supplemented by revenue from conferences, publications/data products, training programs and grants.
