About the Organization

The National Hydropower Association (NHA) is the U.S. trade association that represents the hydropower and pumped storage industry. It advocates for the development, modernization, and continued operation of hydropower resources as a source of clean, reliable, and flexible electricity and supports policies that integrate hydro into grid reliability and decarbonization efforts.

Policy Goals

Federal and state energy policy supporting hydropower and pumped storage, licensing and permitting reform for hydro projects, infrastructure and grid modernization funding, tax incentives and finance mechanisms for clean energy, dam safety and operations, water resources and multi‑use reservoir policy, environmental compliance and mitigation frameworks, market rules that value flexibility and ancillary services

Funding

Primarily funded by membership dues from utilities, independent power producers and developers, equipment manufacturers, engineering and law firms, corporate sponsorships and event fees

Affiliates

Member companies and organizations across the hydropower value chain (utilities, independent developers, equipment manufacturers, engineering firms), state and regional hydropower associations, and allied energy sector trade groups
