About the Organization

The Nature Conservancy — Virginia is the state chapter of The Nature Conservancy, a science-based conservation nonprofit that acquires, protects and restores important lands, waters and coastal areas in Virginia to conserve biodiversity, improve water quality (including Chesapeake Bay restoration), and advance natural-climate solutions and community resilience.

Policy Goals

Land and water protection, habitat and biodiversity conservation, watershed and Chesapeake Bay restoration, coastal resilience and sea-level rise adaptation, natural-climate solutions and carbon sequestration, sustainable forestry and agricultural practices, conservation finance and public-private partnerships, and community-based stewardship and environmental policy advocacy at state and local levels.

Funding

Mixed funding from individual donors and members, philanthropic foundation grants, corporate partnerships, government grants and contracts, fee-for-service and conservation finance activities (including the Conservancy's impact-investing initiatives).

Affiliates

The Nature Conservancy (national and global organization), NatureVest (impact-investing arm), regional conservation partners including the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, local land trusts and university research partners.
