About the Organization

The Women's Building is a women-led, nonprofit community center in San Francisco's Mission District that provides direct social services, community space, arts programming and advocacy to advance self-determination, gender equity and social justice for women, girls, immigrants and LGBTQIA+ people.

Policy Goals

Gender equity and women's rights, prevention of domestic and gender-based violence, immigrant and refugee legal services and family reunification, LGBTQIA+ rights, access to health and economic supports (tax assistance, job services), preservation of affordable nonprofit space and public arts/cultural preservation.

Funding

Mixed revenue model including individual donations, foundation and government grants, program service revenue, fundraising events and rental income from tenants in its nonprofit hub.

Affiliates

Has sponsored and housed numerous local nonprofits including La Casa de las Madres, The Women's Foundation of California and LYRIC; co-founded by activists such as Roma Guy; home to the MaestraPeace mural created by Bay Area muralists Juana Alicia, Miranda Bergman, Edythe Boone, Susan Kelk Cervantes, Meera Desai, Yvonne Littleton and Irene Perez.
