The Transit Riders Union is an independent, democratic, member-run grassroots organization based in Seattle that organizes transit riders to win more affordable, accessible, safe, and reliable public transit and to advance broader social and economic justice tied to transportation policy.
Public transit funding and service equity, fare policy and low-income fare programs, transit-oriented and affordable housing advocacy, support for transit worker protections and labor standards, oppose transit cuts and austerity budgets, endorse local transportation levies and progressive local ballot measures.
Primarily small individual donations and membership contributions supplemented by grassroots fundraising, events, and occasional grants from allied foundations or partner organizations.
Allied labor unions and local progressive organizations (for example local SEIU and ATU locals), tenant and affordable housing advocacy groups, and regional grassroots coalitions such as Raise the Wage campaigns.
