About the Organization

The Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA) is a national labor union representing workers in the electric, gas, water, wastewater, steam and related utility sectors. Chartered in the 1940s and headquartered in Washington, D.C., the union advocates for worker safety, collective bargaining, job security, and quality public utility services while organizing utility employees across municipal and investor‑owned systems.

Policy Goals

Workplace safety and health standards, collective bargaining and union rights, wages and benefits for utility workers, utility infrastructure investment and modernization, energy and grid reliability policy that protects union jobs, public power and municipal utility issues, training and apprenticeship programs

Funding

Primarily funded by member dues, local and national union assessments, and internal union funds

Affiliates

AFL‑CIO, state and local labor councils, UWUA local unions (for example Local 1‑2 and Local 102), UWUA Construction Council, National President James Slevin and other UWUA leadership
