About the Organization

The Virginia AFL-CIO is the statewide federation of labor unions in Virginia that organizes, represents, and advocates for working people; it works to strengthen collective bargaining, improve wages and benefits, advance workplace safety and labor protections, and mobilize union members for political and community campaigns in the state.

Policy Goals

Collective bargaining and union rights, workplace safety and OSHA enforcement, living wage and minimum-wage increases, paid family and medical leave, unemployment and workers’ compensation reform, affordable healthcare access, workforce training and apprenticeship programs, pro-worker tax and economic policies, voting rights and labor-friendly election laws

Funding

Primarily funded by membership dues and assessments from affiliated national and local unions, supplemented by donations and fundraising activities

Affiliates

Affiliated with the national AFL-CIO and a range of national and local unions and labor councils, including local chapters of unions such as SEIU, AFSCME, AFT, Teamsters, UAW and other building trades and public-sector unions
