About the Organization

The Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit membership organization that represents Virginia's county governments. VACo provides advocacy before the General Assembly and Congress, education and training for elected and appointed county officials, research and technical assistance, and resources to strengthen local governance and public services across Virginia.

Policy Goals

Advocacy on state–local fiscal relations and taxation, transportation and infrastructure, land use and planning, public safety and emergency services, education and human services funding, broadband and digital access, environmental and natural resource management, and opposing unfunded state mandates on counties.

Funding

Primarily funded by membership dues from Virginia counties, conference and training fees, event sponsorships, publications and program grants.

Affiliates

National Association of Counties (NACo); Virginia Municipal League (VML) and other statewide local government organizations; county boards of supervisors, county administrators and local officials across Virginia.
