The Wanda Alston Foundation is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization founded in 2008 to honor LGBTQ+ activist Wanda Alston. Its mission is to eradicate homelessness among LGBTQ+ youth by providing transitional housing, trauma-informed counseling, life skills training, and pathways to economic mobility for young people ages 16 to 24. The Foundation operates the city’s first and only housing program solely dedicated to homeless and at-risk LGBTQ+ youth and also engages in research and public policy efforts to improve outcomes for LGBTQ+ youth in the District.
