About the Organization

The Washington Association for Substance Misuse and Violence Prevention (WASAVP) is a statewide professional membership organization that unites prevention advocates, coalitions, and public health practitioners to promote safe, healthy communities through prevention of substance misuse and violence. WASAVP provides training, technical assistance, policy education, and a legislative voice for prevention professionals in Washington State.

Policy Goals

Advocates for sustained state and local funding for community-based prevention and early intervention; policies to restrict and regulate youth access to cannabis, alcohol, tobacco, and vaping products; integration of prevention and public health in schools and communities; strategies to reduce alcohol- and drug-involved traffic crashes; inclusion of prevention and behavioral health perspectives in state policy development related to cannabis, illicit drugs, alcohol, tobacco, vaping, mental health, and community safety.

Funding

Primarily supported by member dues and fees, supplemented by grants, donations, training revenue, volunteer support, and occasional public prevention funds used for allowable education activities.

Greater Spokane Substance Abuse Council (GSSAC), Prevention Voices WA, Community Network Services, Washington State Health Care Authority (as a funding/partner entity), national prevention networks such as CADCA
