The Washington Coalition for Police Accountability (WCPA) is a statewide coalition of families impacted by police violence, advocates, experts, tribes, faith groups, and partner organizations. Formed out of the I-940 campaign in 2020, WCPA develops and advances legislative and policy reforms to reduce police violence, increase civilian oversight and accountability, and center the lived experience of impacted families in policymaking.
Advocates for police accountability and criminal-justice reforms including independent civilian investigation and prosecution of deadly force, strengthened officer decertification and licensing, limits on use of force and high-risk police practices (e.g., chokeholds, unsafe pursuits), de-escalation and training standards, transparency and public-records access, and statutory access to courts for constitutional claims arising from police misconduct.
Primarily grassroots donations and individual contributions, supplemented by grants from foundations and civil‑rights/social‑justice aligned funders and community fundraising.
Works with impacted-family leaders (e.g., Sonia Joseph), civil rights organizations (including ACLU of Washington), the National Police Accountability Project, tribal organizations, labor unions, faith groups, and local advocacy partners.
