The Washington Coalition for Police Accountability (WCPA) is a statewide coalition of families impacted by police violence, civil rights advocates, faith leaders, labor representatives, and community organizations working to reduce police violence and increase accountability in Washington State. Formed in 2020 following advocacy around Initiative 940, the coalition centers the lived experiences of families who have lost loved ones to police use of force and advances legislative reforms to promote transparency, independent investigations, and systemic change in policing.
Police reform and accountability legislation, including independent investigations of police use of force, bans on certain tactics such as chokeholds and no-knock warrants, limits on vehicular pursuits and military equipment, reforms to law enforcement training and certification standards, and broader measures to reduce police violence and strengthen civilian oversight.
