The Washington Food Industry Association (WFIA) is a statewide non‑profit trade association that represents independent grocery stores, convenience and neighborhood retail outlets, and their suppliers in Washington State. WFIA's mission is to advocate for members at the state and local levels, provide industry education and training, operate member programs (including a workers' compensation Retro program), and deliver events and member services that support the economic health of community‑based food retailers.
Advocacy on industry regulatory and legislative matters affecting independent grocers and convenience stores, including state and local regulation and licensing (alcohol, tobacco, fuel/EV charging), taxation and business operating costs, labor and employment policy (wages, workforce development, workers' compensation), food safety and public health compliance, SNAP/WIC and other food assistance program issues, packaging and environmental rules, and policies that affect supply chain, distribution, and small business competitiveness.
Primarily funded by member dues from independent grocers, convenience stores, suppliers and distributors, plus fees for member services and programs (including the Retro workers' compensation program), event and sponsorship revenue, and support from the association's education foundation and program income.
WFIA Educational Foundation (WFIAEF) and a network of member independent grocers, convenience store operators, suppliers and distributors; WFIA works in partnership with national and regional industry organizations such as the National Grocers Association and convenience store trade groups and forms coalitions with related state associations on policy matters.
