Waterkeeper Alliance is a global nonprofit network that organizes, supports, and coordinates local \"Waterkeeper\" advocacy groups to protect rivers, lakes, bays, and coastal waterways through monitoring, community organizing, public advocacy, enforcement of pollution laws, and strategic litigation.
Advocacy for clean water protections and enforcement (including the Clean Water Act), limits on industrial discharges and sewage, opposition to harmful fossil fuel and petrochemical projects affecting waterways, controls on agricultural runoff and nutrient pollution, reduction of plastic and emerging contaminants (e.g., PFAS), habitat and wetland protection, climate resilience for coastal and freshwater communities, and environmental justice for communities impacted by water pollution.
Primarily philanthropic foundation grants, individual and member donations, program grants, and occasional government or institutional grants.
