Whitman Conservation District is a locally led conservation district serving southern Whitman County, Washington (est. 1966). It is a non‑regulatory resource delivery organization that provides technical, financial and educational assistance to landowners and communities to promote sustainable use of soil, water, habitat and agricultural lands and to serve as a local forum for natural resource issues.
Typically advances voluntary, locally driven conservation policies: funding and implementation of cost‑share and technical assistance programs; agricultural stewardship and soil health; water quality and riparian habitat restoration; invasive species control; wildfire resilience and erosion control; and support for collaboration between landowners and state/federal agencies.
Primarily funded through a mix of state and federal grants and allocations (including funds routed through the Washington State Conservation Commission and federal NRCS programs), project cost‑share revenue, local grants and contracts, and occasional private donations.
