Some local governments must get state approval before changing election rules. This covers areas with past or likely discrimination. Changes to districts, at-large seats boundaries, city charters, voting sites, drop boxes, or language help must be reviewed. The attorney general can block changes. People and groups can sue to challenge approvals or force review. The state will list covered areas online. Goal: protect fair voting. Takes effect only if funded.
