This bill makes it a crime to warn someone, in the moment, that police are trying to arrest them, when you intend to help them avoid arrest. It covers texts, calls, social posts, gestures, and signals. Lawyers giving legal advice are exempt, as are people who didn’t know, didn’t intend to help, or replied to lawful police requests. Offenses are Class 1 misdemeanors, charged by state or county. Aim: aid arrests; possible effect: fewer public warnings and chilled speech.
