The Alliance for Retired Americans is a national advocacy organization founded in 2001 by the AFL-CIO that represents the interests of retired workers and older Americans. With more than four million members nationwide and affiliates in dozens of states, the organization works to protect and expand retirement security, healthcare access, and economic justice for seniors through grassroots organizing, public education, and legislative advocacy.
Protection and expansion of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid; defense of public and private pensions; lowering prescription drug costs; expanding access to affordable healthcare and long-term care; supporting workers’ rights; promoting elder justice and voting rights; and advancing economic security and consumer protections for retirees.
Primarily funded through affiliated labor unions, member dues, individual contributions, and donations.
