About the Organization

The Communications Workers of America (CWA) is a U.S.-based labor union that organizes and represents workers in telecommunications, cable and broadband, media and publishing, public sector and higher education, call centers, and related industries. CWA’s mission is to secure collective bargaining rights, improve wages and benefits, protect workplace safety and job security, and shape public policy that advances workers’ economic and civil rights in the rapidly changing communications and technology sectors.

Policy Goals

Collective bargaining and contract enforcement, worker organizing and union security, wages and benefits, workplace health and safety, retirement and healthcare policy, telecommunications and broadband regulation (including net neutrality and universal access), digital privacy and data-security protections, policies supporting public-sector workers and quality public services, and progressive economic and labor law reforms.

Funding

Primarily funded by member dues and initiation fees, supplemented by contributions to union political and advocacy accounts, fundraising, and occasional grants or partnership funding for programs and campaigns.

Affiliates

Affiliated with the AFL-CIO and international labor bodies such as UNI Global Union, organized through national, district and local CWA branches and frequently allied with other labor and progressive organizations in coalition campaigns.
