About the Organization

Consumer Federation of America (CFA) is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit consumer advocacy organization founded in 1968 that conducts research, policy analysis, coalition-building, and public education to advance consumer interests and protections in markets and public policy.

Policy Goals

Advocates for consumer protection and safety, stronger financial regulation and fair credit practices, product safety and labeling, utility and telecom consumer rights, antitrust and competition enforcement, privacy and data protection, prescription drug and health care affordability, and equitable enforcement of consumer laws.

Funding

Primarily funded by membership dues from state and local consumer groups and individual members, grants and contributions from foundations and donors, and fees for research and educational services.

Affiliates

Works closely with state and local consumer organizations, national consumer groups such as Consumer Reports, Public Citizen, U.S. PIRG, National Consumers League, and coalitions that include advocacy and legal organizations.
