The Day 1 Alliance is an industry trade association that represents longtime private-sector contractors that operate correctional and immigration detention facilities in the United States. Its stated mission is to educate the public and policymakers about the role of contractor-operated facilities, promote what it describes as professional and humane care in those facilities, and defend the commercial contracting role in corrections and detention.
Public education and advocacy focused on preserving and expanding government contracting for corrections and immigration detention; defending private contractors against legislative or ballot efforts to ban or restrict for-profit facilities; promoting procurement and contracting rules, facility standards, accreditation and oversight frameworks that enable contractor participation; messaging on detention capacity, funding, and the operational role of private providers.
Primarily funded by member companies in the private corrections and detention industry through dues and membership fees.
Membership and leadership are drawn from major private corrections and detention firms including CoreCivic, The GEO Group, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), and LaSalle Corrections; public-facing spokespersons have included Alexandra Wilkes.
