About the Organization

Equality Florida is the largest statewide civil‑rights organization in Florida dedicated to securing full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people. Through lobbying, grassroots organizing, education, litigation support and public campaigns it works to prevent anti‑LGBTQ laws and advance nondiscrimination, transgender rights, safe schools, HIV‑related policy, and related protections for LGBTQ Floridians.

Policy Goals

State and local nondiscrimination laws, transgender rights and access to gender‑affirming care, safe and inclusive K–12 school policies, HIV prevention and health equity, adoption and parenting rights, reproductive rights, and opposition to bills that target or restrict LGBTQ civil rights.

Funding

Primarily funded by individual donations and membership supporters, philanthropic foundation grants, fundraising events and corporate sponsorships, supplemented by donations to its 501(c)(4) arm and PAC for direct political activity.

Affiliates

Equality Florida Action and Equality Florida PAC; partnerships and coalition work with national and state groups such as the Human Rights Campaign, ACLU of Florida, National Center for Lesbian Rights and Floridians Protecting Freedom; senior leaders include CEO Nadine Smith and co‑founder Stratton Pollitzer.

Legal Structure

Nonprofit organization with multiple arms: Equality Florida Institute (501(c)(3)), Equality Florida Action (501(c)(4)) and an affiliated political action committee (Equality Florida PAC).
