FairVote is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that promotes electoral reform to expand voter choice, increase representativeness, and strengthen democratic accountability. Founded in 1992 (originally as the Center for Voting and Democracy), FairVote conducts research, public education, litigation support, and advocacy on alternative voting methods and institutional reforms.
Advocates for voting-system and democratic reforms including ranked-choice voting (instant-runoff and single transferable vote), multi-member/proportional representation, independent/redistricting reform, measures to increase voter access and choice, and support for the National Popular Vote interstate compact and related election-administration improvements.
Primarily funded by foundation grants, individual donations and philanthropic support, supplemented by event and program revenue.
State-level FairVote chapters and local reform partners, the National Popular Vote coalition and allied academic researchers; founder Rob Richie and other past and present organizational leaders are publicly associated with the group.
