The Independence Institute is a Colorado-based free-market public policy think tank and advocacy organization that says it educates citizens, legislators, opinion-makers, and the media about individual, economic, and journalistic freedom. It describes itself as more than a think tank, also engaging in litigation, coalition-building, ballot initiatives, and investigative reporting.

Primarily supported by private individual donations and other philanthropic contributions; it states that it does not accept government funding.
