Independent Petroleum Association of America

About the Organization

The Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) is a national trade association that represents independent U.S. oil and natural gas producers and related service companies. IPAA’s mission is to advocate for policies that support domestic exploration and production, promote access to federal and state resources, and communicate the economic contributions of independent producers through research, public education and member services.

Policy Goals

Federal energy and natural gas policy, onshore and offshore access and leasing, permitting and regulatory reform (NEPA, species protection, methane rules), tax and fiscal policy affecting upstream producers, export policy for oil and LNG, infrastructure and pipeline policy, public communications and legal/administrative advocacy on environmental and land-use regulations

Funding

Primarily funded by member dues, event and conference fees, sponsorships and program revenue; also supports political engagement through its affiliated political fund (IPAA Wildcatters Fund) and funds advocacy campaigns (e.g., Energy In Depth) financed by industry participants
