The Institute of Makers of Explosives (IME) is the trade association for the U.S. commercial explosives industry. Founded in 1913, IME develops safety and security guidance (Safety Library Publications), provides training and industry data, and advocates for best practices in the manufacture, transport, storage, distribution and use of commercial explosives.
Advocates on safety and security regulation for explosives and ammonium nitrate, transportation and hazardous materials rules, workplace and process safety standards, emergency response and incident reporting, state and federal permitting and liability frameworks, and industry technical standards and training requirements.
Primarily funded by membership dues from commercial explosives manufacturers and associate industry members, supplemented by revenue from training, publications, events and sponsorships.
Major member companies such as Orica, Dyno Nobel, Austin Powder and Dyna Energetics; related professional groups like the International Society of Explosives Engineers; current IME leadership (e.g., IME president Clark Mica).
